Art Program Volunteers
Hanover Township Senior Services provides a variety of art classes to its Seniors. Volunteers are often needed to help staff coordinate projects and assist in the classroom. Volunteers are trained by class instructors and often help in special events and projects.
Gift Shop Volunteers
The Ye Old Gift Shop is located within the Senior Center and is run entirely by volunteers. Volunteers are always needed to staff the gift shop during regular business hours. Specifically looking for someone willing to do a Friday afternoon shift.
Lending Closet Volunteer
The lending closet volunteer assists with record keeping, organizations, processing of weekly transactions, follow up phone calls, and maintenance of donated medic al equipment (wheelchairs, canes, walkers, etc) in the lending closet.
“Meals on Wheels” Drivers
Meals on Wheels drivers deliver meals to homebound seniors. The Site Manager divides the delivery area into routes which are generally covered in approximately an hour. Mileage reimbursement is provided on a monthly basis at a rate set by the Township. Drivers must be friendly and enjoy meeting with people. Volunteers must also have a valid Illinois driver’s license, current liability insurance, and valid automobile registration. Must also be willing to submit to a background check.
Positive Action Group
The Social Services department recently started the Positive Action Group out of Seniors desire to do more within the community to address social issues. The group meets monthly to work on various projects. Previous projects have included a trip to Feed My Starving Children as well as Christmas in July Senior project. The projects change each month and suggestions are always welcome.
P.A.L. (Persons Against Loneliness) Program
A PAL volunteer offers companionship to Hanover Township seniors who might not have a support system, such as family, friends or care givers. PAL companions connect with their senior two times a month via phone or in person (at Senior Center, in the community, or at senior’s home). PAL companions must be willing to establish a rapport with individual senior and offer companionship, conversations, encouragement and emotional support. Training is provided by Senior Center staff member. Volunteers are also needed for our Bi-Lingual PAL program which focuses on meeting with seniors who speak limited English.
Volunteer Express Drivers
Become more involved in your community and promote the independence of older residents! Drive seniors who would otherwise be unable to attend their appointments. Mileage is reimbursed. Drivers must be friendly and enjoy meeting new people. Volunteers must be 21 years old, have a valid Illinois driver’s license, current liability insurance, and valid automobile registration. Volunteers must also be willing to submit to a background and driving history check.
