Hanover Township Senior Center awarded reaccreditation
The Hanover Township Senior Center recently received its letter of reaccreditation from the National Institute of Senior Centers (NISC) following more than a year of preparation with staff, officials and volunteers.
Located at 240 S. IL Route 59 in Bartlett, the Township senior center features a computer lab for technology classes, exercise programs, a variety of art classes, and a congregate lunch program for residents 55 and better. Caseworkers are also located in the center to assist seniors with health insurance counseling, prescription drug and financial assistance programs and conduct benefit screenings.
“Many residents view our senior center as the crown jewel of the Township,” said Brian P. McGuire, Township Supervisor. “Reaccreditation only enhances our reputation in the community as a leading provider of senior services.”
A center can only receive accreditation if it meets the nine standards set by the NISC in various categories ranging from fiscal management to programming.
The Township Senior Center was first accredited in 2013.
In awarding reaccreditation, the institute specifically recognized the center’s strong volunteering operation and opportunities, and the bilingual staff, as essential to the changing demographics.
“Staff and volunteer teams were diligent in ensuring that the Hanover Township Senior Center exceeded the Nine Standards of Excellence,” said Tracey Colagrossi, Director of Senior Services. “We are truly proud to be sharing National recognition with our volunteers, as they were so valuable to the accreditation process.”
Of the 11,000 centers across the country, only 185 are accredited with only three in Illinois. Hanover remains the only Township in the state with an accredited senior center.
The Township will formally celebrate the reaccreditation achievement at the Senior Services volunteer recognition luncheon in April.
